The Myth of "Fast or Slow Metabolisms" and What Actually Works

fat-release Oct 10, 2024
Have you ever asked yourself why some people seem to lose weight easily (and keep it off) and others struggle for years?

It's just a matter of "metabolism", right? Some have a fast one and others have a slow one.

Well, turns out that's a myth!

Today's Nutrition Letter will explain why that's a myth vs. what the real answer is, from a whole-body functional nutrition perspective.

My Professor Sets Me Straight

I realized this myth for the first time as I sat across from my Biology Professor. Her class was called "What Is Life?" and we were studying metabolism.

"What is metabolism?" she asked me.

"It is the process of creating energy out of the food we eat", I said.

"Good. So what if a rather slim person says he or she can eat a lot and never seems to gain any weight. Then what kind of metabolism does she or he have?" she asked.

There was only one answer. But as it came out it felt wrong to say, "A really... terrible metabolism?"

But that was the right answer.

What A Good Metabolism Is

If you find that you gain weight rather easily, I have good news for you!

By definition, you have a GOOD metabolism.

BUT, if you seem to never gain weight (neither fat nor muscle) no matter what you eat, there's just no other way to put this nicely but, by definition, you have a bad metabolism.

Evolutionary success demanded that our ancestors survived by becoming efficient at converting everything he or she ate into energy. Those who weren't efficient enough died.

But our life today is quite different from 99.99% of our ancestors and our good metabolisms are getting us in trouble. Many of us have large excess stores of fat and just want to know how to release it once and for all.

So if metabolism isn't the answer, then what is?

Well, before I tell you, please remember what the answer IS NOT - "a fast metabolism!" And if you hear someone selling you a "metabolic type" fitness plan or diet, beware - either they don't understand what they are talking about (because it's just what the culture taught them to say - in which case you don't want your health in their care) or they know exactly what they are talking about and are clearly deceiving you (yet another reason why you don't want to trust them with your health).

Hormones Are The Answer

Hormones are communication molecules.

Some of them, like Cortisol, shout "Pack the pounds on, ASAP - we have an emergency to prepare for!!" Other hormones, which I call the Fat Release Hormones, shout "We're safe. Release the fat stores!"

Which messages do you want to send around your body? If you are like most people I work with, you want to turn on the second group of hormones.

How To Turn On Fat Release Hormones

Most people who come see me to lose weight for the last time (especially fat) are producing very low levels of Fat Release Hormones. Here are the top reasons why:

  1. over-stressing
  2. over-dieting/fasting
  3. over-exercising

It's so common that I have a whole dedicated Protocol for it in my Fat Release Program: The Hormonal Reset [THR].

It's easy and insanely effective. Without THR Protocol, it would take my clients months to start seeing results. Instead, they see results right away.

This October, I'll be sharing the entire THR Protocol and more importantly, how to personalize it for you.

I give this webinar only once a year, so reserve your spot now and join me on October 10th, 2024 - or wait another year.
